A CHANGE OF STATE

A CHANGE OF STATE
Thomas Ventulett III Chair Installation, Georgia Institute of Technology, 2006

This installation utilizes a simple unit, producing aggregations which navigate seamlessly between form-active, vector-active, and surface-active structural typologies and which echo the changes in state that water undergoes when transitioning from liquid to ice, to steam, or to snow. It radicalizes the potentials of 2D sheet material, provoking it to take on structural, spatial, programmatic, and phenomenal dimensions, and to bring them into organic alignment without the need to succumb to the limitations of conventional typologies and the requisite ancillary details for joints and connections.
