Natural Processes
Introduction
Nature
is not always the most noticeable aspect of a city but it is always present
and can take many forms. Beyond the occasional street tree, ongoing
natural processes of light, air flow and water can affect a city
and its development. The environmental history of surrounding areas
also affects local growth. Natural features depicted on early maps
of Roxbury include rivers, brooks and hills. These were the influential
natural elements that prompted the settlement of Mission Hill. The
ongoing natural processes that continue to shape the site are earth,
light and air.
