Mission Hill’s first settlement was influenced and limited by its topography and location in relation to Boston. Over time, the former site of military fortifications was transformed into a busy and diverse neighborhood. Some of these changes were the result of new improvements in transportation such as the trolley. Today, Mission Hill is a historic community with a mix of residences, stores, banks and schools that is constantly changing. The Mission Hill Main Streets Improvement Program and the current construction of a multi-use community center are current signs of the site’s positive direction for the future.
