The Rapidly Changing Face of Computing (RCFOC)
This is an exuberantly optimistic weekly email or web newsletter put out by a researcher at Compaq. It's a good compilation of quotes and facts from the general press and from informed readers. Lots of stuff on the Internet, Y2k, future appliances, etc.
From the description: "The Red Rock Eater News Service (RRE) is a mailing list organized by Phil Agre <pagre@ucla.edu>. Subscribers to the list receive five or ten messages a week on average. These messages have no single format; they simply contain whatever I find interesting." Phil Agre finds a lot of topics interesting related to society and computing and the home.
As part of an ongoing effort to foster an exchange of knowledge among professionals, academics, and government officials on telecommunications and urban development, the Tuab Urban Research Center at New York University sponsors a mailing list devoted solely
to the topic.
