A major part of the Workshop will be a comparative study
of several 'New Ways of Working' projects. The objective is
to address the question of whether innovation is either possible
or desirable! The case studies should result in an expanded
empirical base for analysis, comparison and more detailed
study; a survey of building types, patterns of space use,
interior design, design processes, change management as well
as procurement and space management procedures; some data
for measuring the success, and failures, of the projects;
insights into the means by which organizations have used architectural
projects to transform their culture; 'red lights' warning
of dangers inherent in the transformation process; observations
on the implications of new ways of working for the renewal
of design and construction process.
We shall also have a number of experts who visit the workshop,
sharing their experience on such matters as the new architecture
and new products for the workplace, strategy of workplace
making, the relation of workplace making to the real estate
industry today, how to inquire into the relations among work,
work practice and workplace.
The workshop will culminate in a seminar, November 28, discussing
the cases, the insights, and an agenda for future research
and teaching.
