The goal of the studio is to explore the relationship between site, program, materials and performance in the resolution of an attractive, well-constructed and functional building. It is the intention to map the paths of the objective and the subjective, the rational and the sensual, in the development of technically sound and culturally intelligent design. Through the discipline of technological investigation we shall collectively try to determine the difference between license and freedom in creative building.

During the course of the semester we intend taking site visits, to see and understand first hand, production methods in construction, marine and -- with luck--airplane manufacture. In addition, we shall hear visitors present their innovative work and experience with materials and production techniques (in wood, concrete, glass, plastics, polymers, metals, etc.).
