Description:
An urban design workshop will be held in Bhutan June 10 through
June 26, approximately 2 weeks. The workshop will explore
conceptual alternatives for expansion of the capitol city,
Thimphu. Key issues include defining an urban vision and balancing
the traditional culture with development. We will be hosted
by the Municipality of Thimphu, and their architects and planners
will participate in our discussions. World Bank experts will
also be involved.
We anticipate a of team of 5-6 students, who have demonstrated
skills in city planning, city design, and/or housing. Other
skills would be welcome but design will be a key element.
The workshop is offered as a SIGUS Workshop (4.23J/11.465J)
together with the City Design and Development Program. Dennis
Frenchman, Jan Wampler, and Reinhard Goethert will be the
accompanying faculty.
All expenses are anticipated to be covered (airfare, lodging
and meals). 6 credits will given upon successful completion.
If you are interested, please submit an application by Thursday
May 17, 5:00pm. A drop off box will be placed in 10-485, or
email your application to Dennis, Jan or Shrimp.
