The course will focus on the technologies, design approaches and interface issues arising from multi-user, collaborative digital environments. Students will get hands-on experience with a number of leading technologies for bringing people together to meet, work, play, buy and build. Mobile computing, embedded systems and electronic agents will also be explored. This seminar will use business, legal and public policy sciences as a basis for considering goals and objectives needed in the design of multi-user forums. These themes will include privacy, fraud prevention, anonymity, security and consumer protection. Students will grapple with the technical, policy and human factors issues by working on prototype interfaces.
