Project
Altstetten Church

In 1967, a Finnish architect, Alvar Aalto, was invited to take part in a competition for a church in the suburbs of Zurich. His entry was a crystallized form with a wedge-shaped plan and an elegant free curved ceiling. Aalto won the first prize, but the congregation later rejected his scheme as excessively modern. The project was never realized and it became the last competition he participated.
