Nanase Shirokawa

Nanase Shirokawa is a second-year SMarchS student in the History, Theory, Criticism of Architecture and Art track. She is interested in monuments and memorial practices surrounding nuclear violence, the bureaucracy of public art, 20th-century Japanese art and architecture, and visual and material culture of the atomic age. Prior to MIT, she worked at the Architectural League of New York as a program associate. 

She received her BA in art history at Williams College, where her senior thesis focused on Isamu Noguchi's unbuilt cenotaph for the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park.
