Architecture Design Studio II

This studio investigates the architectural range between the human body, and urban context. The studio will rigorously analyze and project the actions and performances of the inhabitants, the relation of these actions within a larger framework of programs, as well as the surrounding territory of the neighborhood and immediate context. This simultaneous analysis will produce a thesis statement that will carry the project through to fruition. Due to the varied scales attached to such a venture, students will be encouraged to produce a reciprocal relationship between the developments at each scale—the relationship between the body and its environment, between complex programs, and the urban context. Students are encouraged to invest in a variety of medium to represent their statements—from stop-motion narratives to physical and digital models. This studio is invested in the issues surrounding building within the contemporary city, while responding to the needs, desires, wants, moods, and feelings of the inhabitant.
