Gabriela Carrillo
Gabriela Carrillo founded her eponymous practice in 2019 as a collaborative and interdisciplinary space rooted in architectural practice. She is a co-founder of Colectivo C733, developing public projects throughout Mexico; she was previously a partner at Taller Rocha Carrillo for more than nine years. With more than twenty years of professional experience, she has received numerous distinctions, including the Emerging Voices Award in 2014, the Federico Mariscal Chair, the highest recognition for professional practice awarded by the Faculty of Architecture at UNAM, the Médaille d'Or of the French Academy of Architecture, Architect of the Year by The Architectural Review in London in 2017, Architect of the Year by Architectural Digest México in 2020, and in 2023 she received the Royal Academy Dorfman Award. She has been a member of Mexico's National System of Art Creators, and since 2021 has been a full member of the Academy of Architecture of Mexico, Mexico City Chapter. As part of Colectivo C733, she received the 2024 Obel Award for completing 36 public projects in 36 months. She has been a faculty member at the Faculty of Architecture at UNAM since 2003, where she currently directs the RX Studio Research and Degree Seminar. She has taught at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, Kent State University, and the WAVE program in Venice, Italy, among others. Her work has been exhibited and awarded at numerous national and international biennials and published in national and international media such as Domus, Casabella, Arquitectura Viva, and The Architectural Review, among others.
Carlos Facio
In 2015, he founded TO, a collaborative and interdisciplinary workshop established in Mexico City, together with José Amozurrutia. His practice views architecture as a vehicle for human knowledge capable of promoting a social and artistic stance, sensitive to natural processes. He is a co-founder of Colectivo C733, composed of four architecture offices focused on developing public projects in Mexico.Currently, he is a member of the National System of Art Creators.Among his recognitions are the Obel Award 2024, the AR Emerging Awards in London 2023, The Architectural League of New York’s League Prize 2022, and the grand prize of the Pan-American Architecture Biennial of Quito (BAQ) 2023. His work has been exhibited and awarded in various national and international biennials and published in outlets such as Domus, Architectural Record, Architectural Review, Arquitectura Viva, Casabella, among others. He is a professor at the Faculty of Architecture at UNAM and has delivered various lectures and classes nationally and internationally, including Columbia GSAPP in New York, a MasterClass at Crowhall IIT in Chicago, at the Beijing Design Week 2019 and the WAVE 2019 program in Venice.
Colectivo C733 was constituted in 2019 for the development of public projects in Mexico. It brings together the studios of Gabriela Carrillo, Carlos Facio and Jose Amozurrutia (TO), Eric Valdez (labg), and Israel Espín. Throughout their trajectory as a collective, they have developed over 30 urban equipment projects in all regions of the country, with a focus on projects integrated into the Urban Improvement Plan of the Ministry of Agrarian, Territorial, and Urban Development of Mexico. Their philosophy is based on seeking specific solutions that offer efficient responses. Among their works are the Matamoros Market, the Nacajuca Music House, the Tapachula Market, the San Blas Pier, and the Ecoparque Bacalar. Their works have been recognized in Mexican, Pan-American, and Ibero-American architecture biennials. In 2024 the Colectivo C733 got the Obel Award for their 36 works developed throughout 36 months.
