Out of Frame is a student-run, shape-shifting publication born during the pandemic, exploring the edges of architectural education, between institution and autonomy, practice and reflection, politics and lived experience.
This year’s theme, Gap Filler, addresses the divide between architects and the practical knowledge of engineers, fabricators, and makers. Too often in school, materials are encountered only through renders, without recognition of the labor and expertise behind them.
For this event, we welcome SITU Fabrication, a multidisciplinary team based in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Since 2005, SITU has collaborated with architects, developers, artists, and institutions on complex, customized projects that bridge advanced digital tools with hands-on craft, filling the gap between vision and execution.
