Jonathan Nelson

Jonathan Nelson is a graduate student at MIT in Art, Culture, and Technology (ACT). He has a background as a classically trained musician as well an architectural designer, two identities that have shaped his practice. His research focuses on listening as a form of authorship with agency over architecture, sound, space, and body.

Jonathan holds a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He previously worked as an Architectural Designer at Miller Hull Partnership, LLC, where he was part of a team designing diplomatic facilites. While at Miller Hull, he worked to support and expand Open Studio, a free educational program nurturing youth voices in Architecture. In 2024, he was awarded the Bob Hull Research Grant, through which he investigated the disciplinary boundaries between Music and Architecture, and produced a public sound art installation.
