Rachel Blowes

PhD Student

Rachel Blowes is a designer with an interdisciplinary background in architecture and structural engineering. She is interested in exploring the potential to reduce the embodied energy impact of buildings through design. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from McGill University in civil engineering and joint Master’s degrees in architecture and structural engineering from UC Berkeley. Having previously worked in architecture practice in Montreal, she is now pursuing graduate studies at MIT as part of the Digital Structures research group. Her current research focuses on developing approaches to characterize and design with salvaged building materials, with a particular focus on underutilized wood resources.
