Rubén Bañuelos Preciado
Rubén Bañuelos is a graduate student in Art, Culture and Technology at MIT, where he works across physical and digital interface design, machine learning, and sound art. His practice centers on hybrid instrument-installations, notably with CLSTR1, an infrasound-based interface driving generative audio synthesis; his 2026 NIME paper Recipe for a ghost catcher proposes “spectral performativity” as a framework for machine agency in mechanic and digital interface design. Originally from Tijuana, he completed his master’s in music at the Hochschule für Musik Basel with a practice-based thesis on acoustically interfacing with infrasonic phenomena. He is also a researcher and producer at Disintegrator, an independent think-tank and podcast on the philosophy of technology and AI. As a Graduate Community Fellow at MIT Radius, he works from the conviction that technology is materialized discourse, and that people given the tools to interrogate it can bend it toward the values of their own communities.
