Imani Bailey

Imani Bailey is an MArch 28’ candidate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.  Born in Diego Martin, Trinidad & Tobago and naturalised in the United Kingdom, Imani’s Caribbean heritage continually inspires her academic work through themes of home, identity, and resistance across the Afro-Caribbean diaspora.

Imani holds a Bachelors of Art in Architecture from the University of Cambridge and spent multiple years in practice with a focus on the infrastructural scale where her interest in the urban conceptualisation of home was compounded. Currently, her theoretical, research, and design work at MIT is punctuated by methods of architectural praxis that operate on the fringes of established norms and canon.

Imani is motivated by a desire to expand the possibilities of architecture that arise from the convergence of urban and material scale to imagine the building scale as a site ripe for social, environmental, and economic experimentation.
