Léa Miranda

PhD Student

Léa Miranda is a Presidential Graduate Fellow in the History, Theory, and Criticism of Art PhD program. She is interested in intersections between the history of photography and legal matters of intellectual property and governance. Her research focuses on photographic archives, seeing them as intricate compositions influenced by the political and legal structures. By examining how these archives were conceived and are preserved today, Miranda aims to highlight the social structures' impact on them.

She has significant experience as an independent researcher for the French Ministry of Culture, where she authored a report on the acquisition and management of photographic archives in public institutions. In 2024, she was admitted as a resident of the Villa Medici - French Academy in Rome.

Léa Miranda received a M.A. summa cum laude in Art History (Photography) and Law from the Sorbonne University. A French national, she also has Spanish citizenship, bringing a rich cultural perspective to her research. She is a member of the association Women in Photography (Les Filles de la Photo)
