Katerina Apostolopoulou

Katerina Apostolopoulou is an architect and urban designer dedicated to advancing sustainable urbanism, resilient design, and the regeneration of urban spaces. As a SMArchS Urbanism candidate at MIT, she integrates architecture, urban design, and strategic planning to address ecological and social challenges in urban environments. Licensed in Greece, her international experience spans collaborations with firms, including Foster + Partners in London and Bjarke Ingels Group in Copenhagen.

Katerina’s research explores transforming urban typologies, underutilized spaces and infrastructures through data storytelling, spatial analytics, and evidence-based design. She brings expertise from her participation in international workshops and exhibitions at institutions like TU Delft and ETH Zurich, where she investigated the socio-economic influence of central transit infrastructure and urban resilience strategies as well as the role of architecture in shaping rapidly evolving societies.

Her academic journey includes a degree in Architecture Engineering from the University of Patras and an Erasmus exchange at ENSACF in France, where she specialized in urban regeneration in historic contexts. Katerina has presented her research at international forums such as the ISUF Seminar on Urban Form and the Panhellenic Conference on Planning & Regional Development, underlining her commitment to rethinking urban typologies and addressing ecological challenges through design and research.

Supported by a Graduate Departmental Fellowship at MIT, Katerina continues to develop adaptable frameworks for urban resilience, aiming to redefine urban typologies and revitalize communities to address the needs of a sustainable future.
