Sergio Eduardo Mutis Ordóñez

SMArchS Computation

Sergio Eduardo Mutis Ordóñez is a researcher, architect, and computational designer pursuing a graduate degree in the SMArchS Computation program at MIT. His expertise lies at the intersection of architectural design, distributed robotics, digital twins, machine learning, and digital fabrication.

Sergio previously served as Technical Tutor in Architectural Robotics at the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL, and as Visiting Tutor in the Innovation Design Engineering MSc/MA program at Imperial College London and the Royal College of Art. He has also worked with architecture firms in Colombia, Spain, the US, and the UK, notably, within the ZHA CODE Group at Zaha Hadid Architects, developing applied research in advanced geometry rationalization and procedural design. His work has contributed to projects showcased at prominent venues, including the Chicago Architecture Biennial and the Venice Biennale.

Academically, Sergio holds a Master's in Architectural Design from UCL, where he earned the Bartlett AD Gold Medal and the Bartlett AD Theory Medal. He also has a Bachelor's in Architecture from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, where he received the Order of Academic Merit and the National SCA Thesis Award.

In addition to his professional and academic endeavors, Sergio co-leads Apata Colombia, a non-profit that empowers marginalized communities thru responsible eco-tourism and peacemaking. The organization has earned ample recognition, including the Procolombia Impact Generation Award and the WTM Peacemaking Latin America Prize.
