Arezo Hakemy

Arezo is a researcher and designer pursuing a SMArchS in the Aga Khan Program for Islamic Architecture, where her work explores the intersections of textiles, material culture, and the geopolitics of world heritage in Central Asia. Her thesis investigates placemaking in Afghan War Rugs, reading them as portable archives and maps that materialize Afghan identity and lived experience. Arezo obtained her Bachelor of Architecture from Syracuse University where she wrote on soft architectural interventions at the urban scale, and has practiced in healthcare architecture.
